Ruth Gilmore Stevenson, Argyle Park resident Former longtime Argyle Park resident Ruth Gilmore Stevenson died Oct. 3, 2007 in Norfolk, Virginia after a brief illness. She was 91 years old and had lived with her daughter's family in Virginia for the last three years. Born 1916 in Brooklyn, she spent her summers on the estate of her late grandfather, William Guy Gilmore, the current site of the Great South Bay Shopping Center. She moved to Babylon Village in the 1950s. For many years, she lived with her sister, Sybil Healy and her brother-in-law Howard "Tip" Healy on Dundee Road in Argyle Park.She worked as an administrative assistant at Suffolk County Social Services in Bay Shore for many years, and was well known for her wit and sense of humor. "She will be missed by everyone who knew her," said her nephew Blake Gilmore. She leaves behind her children: Holly Van Pelt and her husband Billy of Atlantic, North Carolina, and Duncan "Steve" Stevenson of Buffalo, New York; her grandchildren: Holly, Liza, Billy, Wiley, Mark and Todd; her four great grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Sybil in 2004, and her brother Robert N. Gilmore in 1992.
No services were held. An interment will be held at a later date in the Gilmore Family plot at Woodlawn Cemetery, New York City.
