Mary Horan, 74 year West Islip resident

Longtime West Islip resident Mary Frances Horan, who was described by her family as a loving homemaker, died September 18, 2007 at her daughter's home on Shelter Island where she lived since 2006. She was 96 years old and lived on Willoughby Street in West Islip for 74 years.

Born in Poland in 1910, she immigrated as a young child with her family to Bay Shore. After a brief stint at the New York Telephone Company, she married her husband Gus and the couple raised their family in West Islip.

"She was loved by everyone she met and was a great homemaker who loved to cook, bake and knit," said her daughter-in-law, Celie who added that she was also an avid reader who also loved to entertain friends and family.

Mrs. Horan leaves behind her children: Patricia Ohrtman and her husband Robert of Shelter Island and Augustus Jr. and his wife Cecelia of Deerfield Beach, Florida; her sisterin law, Marjorie Scordino and her husband Ralph, her brother-in-law, Richard Kuhnapfel; her grandchildren: Bruce Foulke Jr., Kenneth Ohrtman and his wife Kristin, Jane Allen and her husband James, Karen Katzman and her husband Alan, Christopher Foulke, Ami Fitzgibbon and her husband John, Kevin and his wife Kelly and Brian; eleven great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Augustus in 1932, her daughter Barbara Foulke in 1994 and her son-in-law Bruce Foulke in 2007.

She reposed at the Frederick J. Chapey & Sons West Islip Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass was held at St. Joseph's R.C. Church, Babylon, followed by interment at St. Joseph's Cemetery in Babylon.
