Eddie Muir, 69-year Bay Shore firefighter Longtime Bay Shore resident Edgar "Eddie" W. Muir selflessly spent much of his life volunteering his time with the Bay Shore Fire Department and with the Masons. He died September 15, 2007 at the age of 92. Mr. Muir was a World War II Army Air Force veteran. He spent 69 years with the fire department. During his distinguished career, he served as the Captain of the Hook & Ladder Company (1954- 1956), Chief of the Department (1963-1964), Commissioner of the Department (1965-1978) and Treasurer (1980-1988) on the Board of Fire Commissioners. He was a member of the Bay Shore Fire Department Redskins Drill Team (1938-1959) serving as team Captain from 1941 to 1942. He was a life member of New York State Association of Fire Chiefs, a member of the Islip Town Fire Chiefs Council and past official of the NYS Fire Department Racing Association. He was a member of the Suffolk County Volunteer Fireman's Association and the Suffolk County Volunteer Fireman's Chiefs Association. Mr. Muir was also a member of the Bay Shore Masonic Lodge #1043 since 1945 and served as its Grand Master in 1951. After 36 years he retired form his career from Long Island Lighting Co. (LILCO) in 1971. He leaves behind grandchildren: Ronald and his wife Debbie, James and his wife Lori and Andrea; his great grandchildren: Derek, Sean, Jordyn and Jesse Wikso; and his son-in-law: William Paul Wikso. He was predeceased by his wife Andrea E., his daughter Linda Wikso and his grandson Lawrence Wikso. He reposed at the Overton Funeral Home, Islip, on September 15, 2007 followed by a Firematic Service at the funeral home. A Funeral Service was held on September 17, 2007 followed by a Fire Department processional and interment at Oakwood Cemetery in Bay Shore.
