Good Samaritan Golf Classic a success

Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center recently held its tenth annual Golf Classic at two courses, Southward Ho Country Club in Bay Shore and St. George's Golf and Country Club in East Setauket. This year's honoree was George L. Engelke, Jr., chairman, president and chief executive officer of Astoria Financial Corporation. As part of his personal commitment to the communities Astoria Federal serves, Engelke has focused on the issues of affordable housing, homeownership and community revitalization.

The Golf Classic was a tremendous success with almost 300 golfers participating. The weather was golf perfect and more than $300,000 was raised for the Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation with health care professional education being highlighted.

Many raffle prizes, such as a trip to Las Vegas, a 26 inch flat screen TV, theater tickets and a cash prize were awarded. In addition, the live auction raised almost $20,000.

Golf Classic Chairman Michael Lessing thanked all sponsors for their commitment to the hospital's efforts to address the development of health care professional education. Plans for the 2008 Golf Classic are currently under way.
