Panthers 5th Grade Football: Babylon shuts out Three Village The Babylon Panthers went for their second shut out of the season beating Three Village 28 - 0 Sept. 30. The Panthers' win ranked them #2 in the Suffolk County Police Athletic League's top 5 division, right behind West Islip in the 10 West 3 division. Babylon took on Three Village at home. Three Village started the game with its offensive drive and was pushed back by Babylon's powerful defense forcing them to punt from their 32- yard line. Babylon's offense took the field, and quarterback Henry Brunjes handed the ball to powerhouse fullback Kyle Buser who bulled downfield for 25- yards. Halfback Zachary Carmody broke two tackles, and dove for the corner marker for a 14-yard touchdown. Babylon's extra point was no good against the blitzing Three Village. Babylon's defensive linemen Alex Turri, John Botto and Matthew Lauri, with backfield tackles, pushed them back 10-yards and recovered a fumble. Babylon took advantage of the recovery with a pitch to Zack Carmody who cut behind tight end Jack Faccibene with a block to the outside, allowing Carmody to run for a 35-yard touchdown. With four minutes left in the half, Three Village started a downfield drive into Babylon territory running a reverse play, which is foiled by linebacker Steven Cavaliere. Inches from a first down, line- backer Thomas McHugh got Babylon's first sack of the game, forcing them to punt. Zack Carmody returned the punt for 23-yards. Henry Brunjes sent Thomas McHugh in motion. He took a handoff and ran for a 35-yard touchdown. After the half the Babylon defense continued to dominate. Babylon safety Christian Martino, with line of scrimmage tackles, right tackle Jack Kresek, and left tight end Cory Harberg were penetrating the line allowing linebackers James Marron and Dylan Dreher to penetrate the Three Village backfield, pushing them back 19-yards and forcing another punt. Babylon starts quarterback Jack Conlon in the third quarter and deep in their zone, Babylon forces its way downfield, using fullback Joe Ponzone and halfback Matt Lauri. Three Village goes on a blitz; Jack Conlon pitches to Thomas McHugh who runs for a 49-yard touchdown. The extra points played a key role in this game where Babylon set up three times for field goal attempts. Field goals are rarely attempted at this age, but Babylon's Stephen Schweitzer kicked two impressive field goals.
Babylon's next home game is Oct. 14, at 2:20 p.m. in West Islip.
