Deer Park's Parent Resource Center to host sex abuse workshop October 15
Deer Park's Parent Resource Center will host a Childhood Sexual Abuse Prevention Program Workshop for parents and caregivers in the community. The Apple of My Eye program tailored for adults, and developed by the Executive Director of Parents for Megan's Law Laura Ahearn, will equip community members with the knowledge to protect their children from childhood sexual abuse through a presentation entitled Laura's 10 Prevention Tips.
This unique program focuses on prevention and is based on the startling statistic that 90 percent of childhood sexual abuse occurs with someone a child has an established and trusting relationship with. A few of the many skills highlighted and taught will include: the 10 Rules of Safety, 11 Red Flags, and 27 Tricks Predators Use to Access Children.
Suffolk County Legislator Lou D'Amaro is sponsoring this informative educational session and will be present to discuss critical issues at the event. The workshop will take place on Monday, October 15th from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Deer Park High School Auditorium (Falcon Place, in Deer Park). For additional information, you can contact the Deer Park Parent Resource Center at 631-274-4000 ext. 7910.
