Babylon Business and Professional Women's Association to meet October 18 The Babylon Business and Professional Women's Association (BBPWA) will host a slide presentation and discussion by history curator Joshua Ruff on Living the American Dream: Levittown and the Suburban Boon, Thursday, October 18, noon at the South Bay Diner Restaurant, 185 East Sunrise Hwy., Lindenhurst. Ruff's talk is based on the exhibit of the same name that he curated at The Long Island Museum in Stony Brook recently. Living the American Dream examined the rise of Levittown and the post-war housing boom on Long Island. This lecture includes early Levittown community photographs and video documentary interviews that help to bring back the story of the most famous American postwar housing development in history. Ruff is history curator at The Long Island Museum, Stony Brook and a part-time instructor at St. Joseph's College, Patchogue. He has curated many exhibitions and has published articles in The magazine Antiques, The Encyclopedia of New York State and a chapter in Re-Creating the American Past, among others.
The public is invited to attend. The fee for the luncheon/ presentation is $25 per person, and reservations are required. For reservations and information, call Claire Meirowitz, BBPWA vice president at 631-422-6804,
