Heard It On The Grapevine
By Frick and Frack

IT WAS FAMILY REUNION TIME at Point O'Woods for the McCully-Thurlow family who lived here in the Village for many years some time ago. Enjoying the fun, the sun, and the reminisces were: Merritt McCully Thurlow of Silver Spring, Maryland; Alline Thurlow of Seattle, Washington; Cathleen and Rowland Thurlow of Alexandria, Virginia; Betsey and Ken Shields of Silver Spring, Maryland; Molly Thurlow Collen of Granville, Ohio; David and Debbie McCully Johnson of Rye, New Hampshire; "Trinkie" Brueckner of Barrington, Rhode Island and Martha Anderson Fontaine of Caravalla, Ohio.

IF SEAFOOD IS YOUR THING to do try Cooper's on Cooper Street, formerly owned by Ed Ferri. Rick Olivieri, the "new" owner has been in charge for six years. Rick is a busy man - he also owns The Pier and is a co-owner of La Grange Restaurant. To start with, we had a delightful waitress, Wanda Johnson, who catered to our every need. I had the crab cakes which were the best. Lots and lots of crab meat and not much stuffing. The hamburgers were huge and looked delicious. Prices are moderate, there's plenty of parking and a ramp for those of us who need it. Try it, you'll like it.

2008 LOOKS LIKE A BANNER YEAR for the Steve Bellone's (he's our Babylon Town Supervisor) They're expecting a very special New Year's present - a new baby is on the way and we wish them the very best. Don't know whether it's a boy or girl

we'll keep you informed.

APPLICANT SEEKS NEW CELLULAR TOWER IN VILLAGE. The Babylon Village Board is reviewing an application for a cellular tower on Post Place. A public hearing will be held, to be announced, in the near future and we'll let you know the details when we get them.

"BEST PARTY OF THE YEAR." That the "buzz" about the brunch party held at the Babylon Yacht Club last week. The 115 guests who were on the scene raved about the delicious, all homemade dishes served by the committee members. Entertainment Chairman Dick Patwell made his famous omelette served by order and Doug Williamson's bagels were also made by special order. Fresh fruit galore was served including strawberries, melons, pineapple, etc. A great big thanks goes to Kate and Dick Patwell, Jane and Tom Kane, Terry and Paul Elmstrom, June Stuhler, Nancy and Gordon Parker, Gil and Barbara Schlerf, Mary Freund and Peggy and Doug Williamson.

SEVERAL RESIGNATIONS AT THE BABYLON LIBRARY. Peter De Nigris, who has been a trustee at the Babylon Library for over 25 years resigned from the post last July. Peter has been replaced by Rinn Robinson who had worked at the Library some years ago. And Toni Mulle, another longtime trustee has also resigned from the board. There is an opening for Tony's unexpired term. For details and information, call Library Director Marina Sullivan at 631-669-1624. Spoke to Immediate Past President Mary Gallagher who said she had enjoyed working with Peter and Tony and is looking forward to working with Rinn and the new Board members.

AND DON'T FORGET: Apples and Art next weekend at the Conklin House.
