Athletic Notebook
by Chris Vaccaro
All information in this notebook is as of Sept. 20.

Amityville: The Warriors beat Shoreham-Wading River, 34-0, on Sept. 20. Cornell Warrick ran 14 times for 96 yards and a touchdown. Marcus Gardner had an equally as impressive game, rushing for 126 yards and throwing for 114 yards and three touchdowns. The Warriors are ranked fourth in the division and look really good thus far. The boys' soccer team lost 4-0 to Glenn on Sept. 19, while Copiague blanked the girls' team, 5-0. The girls' soccer team hasn't gotten any easy breaks, losing 7-0 to both Copiague and Deer Park, and 6-1 to North Babylon and Central Islip.

Babylon: The boys' soccer team hasn't been able to pick up a win, dropping to 0-4-1 in their first five contests. Field hockey has had the same bad luck at 0-4. The girls' soccer team won their first three games, but dropped their last two, 4-1 to Bayport-Bluepoint and 4-3 to Glenn. The football team opened the season with a 27-7 win over Miller Place, but lost 26-10 to Mt. Sinai.

Copiague: The boys' soccer team is 0-4 to start the season. The field hockey team is 0-2-1. The football team lost, 38-8, to open the season against a very powerful East Islip team and then lost 49-35 to Deer Park the following week. Dwayne Stewart threw five touchdown passes against the Falcons.

Deer Park: West Islip beat the Falcons, 2-1, in boys' varsity soccer as of late, dropping them to 0-3. The girls' soccer team beat Copiague, 4- 3, and Hauppauge, 1-0, but lost recently to Hills West, 3-2. The football team has had great success and made a statement opening the season with a 22-0 win over Hills East. Mike Gimeli had 112 yards on 18 carries for two touchdowns in the win over Copiague.

Lindenhurst: Diego Sarmiento had two goals in a 6-1 win over Southampton. Their latest contest was a 3-1 loss to Ward Melville and they're 2-3 on the season. Sachem North beat the football team, 30-20, in Week 1, then Brentwood beat them 38-28 the following week.

North Babylon: Heading into the season many though the Bull Dogs would return to their powerful ways of the late 1990s and early 2000s, but they've done the opposite. They lost 21-18 to Newfield, then 21-8 to East Islip.

West Babylon: The girls' soccer team is 1-3. Hollie Dimuro scored two goals in a 5-0 win over Bellport. The Eagles weren't expected to beat Riverhead in Week 1 of the gridiron season, but their 31-13 win over Centereach the next week was a great way to bounce back. Quarterback George Daw was 9-of-14 for 195 yards and two touchdowns. John Sceppa broke a school record by running back a 100-yard kick return to open the third quarter for West Babylon.

West Islip: The football team beat Smithtown West, 13-0, in Week 1, then lost 27-14 to Riverhead the next week.
