Lois Whittaker, 25-year Babylon Village resident, local volunteer

Dedicated Southside Hospital volunteer and former Babylon Village resident Lois Whittaker died August 28, 2007 at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury, Maryland. She was 86 years old.

Born in New Haven,

Connecticut to John

Sterrett and Lois Robinson Thomson, she was a 1942 graduate of Russell Sage College in Troy, New York where she majored in merchandising. In 1945, she and her husband John Russell, who predeceased her, started their family in Babylon Village where Mr. Whittaker grew up. A dedicated and loving mother, she also volunteered for many years with the Girl Scouts and for Southside Hospital in Bay Shore.

In 1970 she moved to Allen, Maryland where she and her husband successfully ran the Whittaker Boat Yard and Whittaker Marine Consultants. Mrs. Whittaker was a member of the Retired Persons Associates with Salisbury University and loved to play Bridge with her neighbors.

She leaves behind her children: Lois Ann of Selden, Jane G. of Salisbury, Maryland and John Rob and his wife Lois of Hebron, Maryland; her adopted daughters: Bobbie Calloway and Jean Richmond; and her cat, Squeaky.

A Funeral Service was held August 31, 2007 at the Holloway Funeral Home in Salisbury, Maryland with the Rev. David Rector officiating. Interment followed inKensico Cemetery in V alhalla, New York on September 1, 2007.
