Lindenhurst Historical Society to meet The quarterly meeting of the Lindenhurst Historical Society will be held September 26. Attendees are invited to come at 7 p.m. to the Lakeville Industries plant on East Hoffman Avenue and Smith Street to view and have a guided tour of the exhibits of its history and displays, and also of many other aspects of the history of Lindenhurst, e.g. the first telephone. From the parking lot, walk straight ahead in the u-shaped entrance to the showrooms, not the side doors. At approximately 7:45 p.m. you are invited to go to the Maraino Remedies Restaurant just east of Lakeville, on Hoffman Avenue and Pennsylvania Avenue for refreshments, a society meeting and a resume of what you have just seen at Lakeville by Village historian Evelyn Ellis. Richard Sirlin, son of the original owner, Al Sirlin, and his staff, will be organizing the tours of the showrooms.
The 1901 LIRR station, freight house and caboose, are closed for the season, but the museum on South Wellwood is open all year round on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, 2 to 4 p.m.
