Islip Art Museum presents exhibition from September 19 through November 18, reception to be held October 14 The Islip Art Museum will present Making The Most of It, an exhibition which critiques our consumer culture and wasteful ways by turning mundane throw-away materials into treasures. The exhibition will be on view in the museum's main galleries at Brookwood Hall, 50 Irish Ln., East Islip, September 19 to November 18. A reception for artists will be held Sunday, October 14, 2 to 4 p.m. The reception is free and open to the public. Reservations are not required. Karen Shaw will curate the Making The Most Of It exhibition. Artists in the show include: Barton Lidice Benes, Zoe Brookes, Jim Dingilian, Elizabeth Duffy, Tomiko Kawata, Keith Long, Nava Lubelski, David Poppie, Mark Wagner and Andy Yoder. Jane Martin, an East Hampton painter who also creates films and videos, will be the featured artist in the Permanent Collection Gallery in an exhibition curated by Janet Goleas. At the same time as the exhibition, William Oberst, a painter known for realistic, intimate scenes of everyday life will be featured in the museum store. He is on the faculty of Stony Brook University. In addition to the reception, the following related events have been scheduled: A tour of the exhibition followed by an informal tea will be held on Thursday, September 27 and Thursday, October 25, 3 p.m. There is a $5 reservation fee, which must be paid in advance.
