William Rall Elementary in Lindenhurst celebrates hat day in memory of a fellow student

On a sunny day at the end of May, William Rall Elementary School students, teachers, and administrators celebrated Hat Day with a bang. There were baseball hats, sombreros, and bandanas. The school raised over $814 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in memory of fifth grader Amanda Grosso, who passed away from the disease a few

months ago. A special emphasis on wearing pink and blue hats was called upon by Amanda's friends, as those were her favorite colors.

Amanda's friends Jacqueline Theal, Melissa Albert, Nicole Leitke, and Lauren Tavormina who stood by their friend with cards, calls, and visits to the hospital during her illness. They are also planning additional fundraisers such as a Jell-O Jump and a lemonade stand.

Shown, left to right, are Amanda Grosso's friends on Rall's Hat Day.
