Lindy Pride shines green on Empire State Games
Special needs students from throughout Lindenhurst participated in the Empire State Games for the Physically Challenged at Mitchell Field on June 1. Each athlete was paired with a buddy to help train and prepare for the games. Athletes, buddies, parents, faculty and administrators were all there to cheer on the athletes in various track and field events. True Lindy Pride was evident in light and dark green Lindenhurst t-shirts.
Spearheaded by Daniel Street physical education teacher Sue Stout, buddies and their athletic counterparts were true competitors. They competed against each other, as well as other districts. Their determination was displayed throughout the hot, sunny day. Plenty of water was on hand for everyone. "The games are a huge event and couldn't have done it without everyone's help, exclaimed Stout. "was truly special for our students."
