West Gates Avenue Elementary School - Parents as Reading Partners (PARP)

Lindenhurst's West Gates Avenue School's theme this year was sports - West Gates All Star Readers. To get students excited for the program, the school held an entertaining kickoff assembly, featuring a song and dance routine presented by the teachers and principal. Then the festivities continued into the evening, as parents and children filled the school for a variety of reading games and activities.

The following week, children were invited back to the school for Read-AThon! The children came dressed in their pajamas and enjoyed reading activities, games, cookies and juice. The PARP program also included Book Bingo, a game played like regular Bingo but instead of numbers, book titles are called out. The children truly enjoyed this game and everyone went home with a new book and small prizes.

This year's PARP chairperson Stacey Carenza, Co- Chairpersons Kathy Rinaldi and Rosalie Forgione and the entire PARP Committee helped to make this year's program a success .
