Praise for West Babylon art students

Five seniors at West Babylon High School recently earned high marks at the annual Suffolk County Art Leaders Association (SCALA) Art Show, held at the Gallery on the Hill in Hauppauge.

Students from 13 different Suffolk County high schools submitted over 75 pieces of artwork to the competition, but West Babylon art students won first place in three of the six categories being judged. Robert Samartino not only earned first place in the painting category, but also won the highest honor as Best in Show. Ellen Brooks took first place in sculpture, and Patricia Weisenseel's work won top honors in mixed media.

Additionally, Carolyn Presti and Elizabeth Scibelli earned honorable mentions in drawing. Scibelli also submitted her work to the C.W. Post Advanced Visions art exhibit, highlighting the best student art throughout Long Island.

West Babylon High School seniors Elizabeth Scibelli, Patricia Weisenseel, Best in Show winner Robert Samartino, Carolyn Presti and Ellen Brooks each took home awards at the annual SCALA Art Show. Overall, West Babylon earned top honors in three of the six artistic categories.
