Great entertainment and more at BBS Country Fair

Young fairgoers pose on t he tractor at last year's fair.
Entertainment at the Gazebo is just one reason thousands come to Argyle Park in Babylon each year for the annual Babylon Beautification Society Country Fair. This year's fair, Sunday, Sept. 9, will feature a new group of performers, the Banjo Rascals.

Founded almost 40 years ago, the Banjo Rascals perform throughout Long Island and the tri-state area. The group performs music of all kinds, including ragtime, rock, country, big band and Dixieland. Their program features vocals with a 3-part harmony, sing-a-longs with song sheets to encourage audience participation and dance music, along with the patriotic music of John Philip Sousa. This year, they will be on hand to delight fairgoers as they perform on the Gazebo.

The 34th annual fair kids off at noon with the trooping of the colors and Christi Reinert singing the National Anthem, followed by an afternoon of exciting entertainment on the Gazebo.

Surrounding the Gazebo is the food court, with a vast array of food for fairgoers, who can choose among freshly roasted local corn, hamburgers, hot dogs, sausage and peppers, nachos, deli sandwiches, beverages of all kinds and more. Local produce, potted flowers and pumpkins for sale add to the country flavor of the fair.

Babylon Beautification Society President Donna Consola and members of the board have been putting the last touches on details for this year's fair. Volunteers are needed on Sat., Sept. 8 to line the vendor spaces around Argyle Lake. Call Darrell Conway (669-0001) if you can help. Call Pat Farrell (666- 5447) or e-mail Carol Krollage (CKrollage@yahoo.com) if you have books to donate for the used-book stall.

As always, Argyle Lake will be ringed with close to 300 craftspeople with everything from handmade clothing to holiday ornaments, wreaths, floral arrangements, and other decorative items. Take a chance on the annual Historical Society's quilt, which will be raffled off in December.

Come to the 34th annual BBS Country Fair Sunday, Sept. 9 (rain date, Sept. 16) for a day filled with fun, food and entertainment.
