David Drew: 20-year Babylon Village resident & WWII vet Former Babylon Village resident David P. Drew, a proud World War II veteran, died July 30, 2007 with his family by his side in Key West, Florida where he relocated in 2004. He was 87 years old. Born in New York City on September 20, 1919, he later lived on Sudan Place in Babylon Village for more than 20 years until moving to Florida after his wife passed away. A member of the International Union Operating Engineers who operated heavy machinery for a living, he served in the Army's First Armored Division during WWII and was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. According to his family, he was a huge baseball fan. Mr. Drew leaves behind his children: Doreen Leccese and her husband Mike of Holbrook, Ellen Batty and her husband Peter of Key West, Florida and David and his wife Magge of Bay Shore; 11 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife, Ethel.
He reposed at the Moloney funeral home in Moloney's Bohemia Funeral Home and in the Dean Lopez Funeral Home in Florida. A Funeral Mass was held at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church in Key West, Florida on August 7, 2007. Interment in Calverton Cemetery, Calverton.
