Copiague man killed in car accident in Bay Shore

Suffolk County Police Third Squad detectives are investigating a motor vehicle crash that claimed the life of a Copiague man.

Michael Klingel, 21, of 29 Wilson Ave., Copiague was operating a 2007 Honda motorcycle eastbound on Union Boulevard on August 18 at 8:15 p.m. According to witnesses, Klingel was traveling at a high rate of speed. At the intersection of Union Boulevard and Montgomery Avenue, the motorcyclist struck a 2003 Ford Explorer being driven by Sebastian Vitelli, 67, of 34 Karshick Street, Bohemia. Vitelli was westbound on Union Boulevard and was making a left turn onto Montgomery Avenue when his vehicle was struck in the rear quarter panel by the motorcycle.

Klingel was transported to Southside Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Vitelli was not injured.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks. Third Squad detectives are continuing the investigation.
