Matthew Ryan, Special Ed teacher & Babylonian

Matthew J. Ryan, a longtime special education teacher in East Meadow and former Babylon resident, died July 26, 2007 at his home in Chester, New York. He was 51-years-old.

Born in Manhattan, he was raised in Babylon and graduated from Babylon High School in 1974. A graduate of Clark and Stony Brook Universities, he worked for 24 years as a special education teacher in the East Meadow School District, and was named their teacher of the year in 2004/2005. In 1992, he moved to Chester with his wife.

According to his father, he was a sports enthusiast who rooted for the Yankees and Giants. He loved to garden in his huge yard.

Mr. Ryan leaves behind his wife, Ilona of Chester; his children: Sarah and Luke; his stepsons: Preston and Garret Windus; his parents: Donna and Vincent of Babylon; his siblings: John and his wife Constance, Timothy and his wife Tina, Michael and his wife Regina and Kathleen and her husband Maxwell; as well as several nieces and nephews.

He reposed at the Donovan Funeral Home in Chester. A Funeral Service was held July 28, 2007 at the St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church in Goshen, New York followed by private cremation.
