NBSD settles with former Superintendent Randall Bos
BY CAROLYN JAMES

The North Babylon School District, which is in the midst of its second search for a new superintendent, has reached an agreement with its former Superintendent, Dr. Randall Bos. Bos was fired in June of 2006 by the school board, following almost a year of disagreements.

The agreement points to the controversy between the board and Dr. Bos as having "an adverse impact on the administration of the District, as well as the reputation and career of Dr. Bos," and concluded that it posed a serious risk of further deterioration in the proper and harmonious functioning of the administration of the District and Dr. Bos' career. As a result, the district paid Dr. Bos $30,000, and an additional sum of $127,500 in January, 2007, adjusted for salary and cell phone payments received after Nov. 1, 2006. Taxes and $10,000 in legal fees were taken from that amount and represent, the agreement states, the district's contractual obligations to Dr. Bos..............

In exchange, Dr. Bos submitted a letter of resignation; such resignation in no way is to be construed as an admission or acknowledgement of any wrongdoing on his part, the settlement states. Both sides also agreed to limit public comments related to the settlement.

The agreement was signed by Dr. Bos and William L. Harrigan, president of the school board. Mr. Harrigan did not return phone calls for his comment.
