Alleghany Ave. in Lindenhurst holds DARE graduation for fifth graders

Sixty-seven fifth graders at Alleghany Avenue Elementary School graduated from a special ten-week program called D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) Students learn to "say no to drugs" as they have lessons on the health effects and dangers of drugs such as marijuana, tobacco, and alcohol. The students learn about peer pressure and how to handle difficult situations from Officer Jeanne Osias, their D.A.R.E. mentor.

Each student wrote an essay and a pledge not to take drugs. Essay presenters were Nicole Czopek, Bryan Ceballos, Marissa DiBlasi, Emily Marchetti, Katelyn Marcovsky, and Jenna Rollino. The students were from Mrs. Tilden, Mrs. McLoughlin, and Mr. Styllanos.

"The program is amazing," said Principal Laura Newman. "The kids really enjoyed it tremendously."

Nicole Czopek is shown speaking to her fellow D.A.R.E. graduates.
