Mary Alice Christophersen, West Islip resident and R.N. Throughout her life, Mary Alice Christophersen was a woman who cared for others. Whether it was her own family, or those under her care as a registered nurse, she maintained an admirable level of excellence said her family and coworkers. Mary Alice "Murph" Christophersen, longtime West Islip resident, died July 20, 2007. She was 62- years-old. "She was a special person and a fabulous nurse," said Joan Dowding R.N., who worked with Mrs. Christophersen for eight years. "She's missed by the community, as well as by our doctors, nurses and patients." Born at a home in Babylon, and delivered by her grandfather, Dr. Healy, she graduated as a nurse from St. Vincent's. For more than 19 years, she worked as a Registered Nurse at Amityville's Island Medical Associates. She had an outstanding work ethic and provided both medical and emotional care to her patients. She was also described by her family as a loving wife and mother who enjoyed gardening and entertaining where her holiday parties at her home in West Islip were memorable for more than 30 years. Mrs. Christophersen leaves behind her husband James of 40 years, her children: Charles and his wife Patti of Bayport and David of Manhattan; and her grandson, Ethan.
She reposed at the Frederick J. Chapey & Sons Funeral Home, West Islip, on July 23, 2007. A Celebration of the Liturgy of Christian Burial was held on July 24, 2007 at St. Joseph's R.C. Church in
