Daniel Street kindergartner wins Suffolk Reading Council Writing Contest

Lindenhurst's Daniel Street's kindergartener Russell Ward won first place for his story The Christmas Polar Bear. The story is about a polar bear who didn't like Christmas and the color red.

Each year, Daniel Street Elementary students participate in the creative writing contest sponsored by the Suffolk Reading Council. The contest is open to all Suffolk County schools. All work is the students own and must be composed in school. Students can submit prose, poetry, or a piece of writing.

Shown in the photo, kindergartener Russell Ward holds up his award-winning story with teacher Melanie Crichton, left and reading specialist Barbara Reese, right.
