Babylon resident graduates from Marine Academy

On June 18, Midshipman Mark Wanderer of Babylon Village graduated magna cum laude from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York, with 213 members of the class of 2007.

The Academy welcomed presidential candidate and U.S. Senator John McCain as the commencement speaker at this year's graduation exercises.

At the Academy's 71st comm ence- ment, Wanderer received a third mate Merchant Marine license, presented by Vice Admiral Joseph D. Stewart, the Academy's superintendent.

Midshipman Wanderer was addition- ally commissioned as a U.S. Naval Reserve ensign and was awarded a bachelor of science in logistics and intermodal transportation.

Wanderer had been nominated to the Academy by Congressman Steve Israel. He is the son of Annette and Bob Wanderer.
