Car strikes pedestrian; police seek public's help in investigation

Suffolk County Police First Squad Detectives are investigating a motor vehicle versus pedestrian crash in Lindenhurst, which left a Bay Shore woman hospitalized with serious injuries.

Police said that on Wednesday, July 18, at about 10:30 p.m., Stephen Shea, age 28, of 1077 Manor Lane, Bay Shore, was driving a 2001 Hyundai eastbound on Sunrise Highway in Lindenhurst.Just east of the intersection with Monroe Avenue, the Hyundai struck a pedestrian, Kimberly Fravenberg, age 36, of 1815 Peck Avenue, Bay Shore. Fravenberg was attempting to cross the Sunrise Highway eastbound lanes from the south side sidewalk, having just left the McDonald's restaurant at the corner of Sunrise Highway and Monroe Avenue in Lindenhurst.

Fravenberg was transported by Lindenhurst Rescue to Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip, with serious injuries to her head and torso. Shea was uninjured.

Shea's vehicle was impounded for a safety check. No violations were observed and no summonses were issued.

First Squad Detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152. All calls will be kept confidential.
