Statistics show steady increase in emergency calls for WIFD

The West Islip Fire Department released the volume of their responses to emergency calls for the first six months of this year. These statistics show how many alarms the Fire Department replied to for each month. The breakdown below demonstrates an upward trend from February through June. Since the West Islip Fire Department's jurisdiction expands into Robert Moses State Park from Memorial Day through Labor Day, the response calls are expected to be higher for July and August.

The following is a breakdown of monthly response calls for the six-month period of January 1st through June 30th: January - 209; February - 193; March - 199; April - 201; May - 205; June - 209.

"These statistics clearly demonstrate the high volume of emergencies that the brave men and women of this Department respond to day-in and day-out," said Michael Delgado, Chief of the West Islip Fire Department. "In order to ensure a safe and enjoyable summer season at our beaches, our jurisdiction has expanded into Robert Moses State Park through Labor Day. The West Islip Fire Department remains unwavering in our commitment to provide our taxpayers with the finest service."
