Starbucks' employees join KIC to celebrate Earth Day
Starbucks employees recently brought the Earth Day message of a cleaner community to Islip's Main Street by grabbing trash bags and gloves to pick up litter during the 2007 Great American Cleanup sponsored by Keep Islip Clean (KIC).
About 35 employees of area Starbucks stores joined Islip volunteers to give a good spring cleaning to Main Street and the adjacent parking lots, with 40 bags of trash collected. "We're always looking for ways to be a good neighbor," said Laurie Cocco, Manager of the Islip Village Starbucks. "We're right in town, so I thought an Earth Day cleanup with KIC was a great way to give back to our community."
As with all Great American Cleanup events, KIC provided cleanup supplies to hard working volunteers, with Mother Nature providing a beautiful, sunny day.
Joining Islip Village Starbucks Manager Laurie Cocco were Suffolk County Legislator Cameron Alden, Islip Chamber of Commerce Vice President Lori Zegel, Islip Chamber of Commerce Secretary Denise Darrell and KIC Executive Director Nancy Cochran. "This was a very successful event," said Cochran. "It was a great experience having a local business, residents and community leaders join together for a cleaner community."
