Legislator Stern appears on Meet the Leaders with Pat Halpin
Suffolk County Legislator Steve Stern (D-Huntington) 16th LD recently appeared on Cablevision's Meet the Leaders program hosted by former Suffolk County Executive Patrick Halpin. Legislator Stern discussed issues facing the area such as development pressure along the Commack Road/Sagtikos corridor including a Big Box Development, the Tanger Outlets, the proposed Heartland Village development at Pilgrim State and the Intermodal Rail Facility. Legislator Stern noted that $7.5 million was appropriated in the County's capital budget for improvements and mitigation measures but stressed that cooperation and a regional approach to planning are critical to protecting the quality of life of area residents and the environment. Legislator Stern also spoke about serving as Chairman of the Suffolk County Senior Citizen's Task Force that is addressing issues facing older adults including affordable housing, more accessible transportation and an increased need for long-term care services. The Task Force received input from seniors themselves, from government representatives, experts in health care, financial planning and from legal aide representatives and social workers among others. The Task Force will prepare a report for the Legislature and County Executive and make recommendations to help find innovative solutions to the problems facing seniors in Suffolk County.
Meet the Leaders-Suffolk Edition will air on Channel 18 on Saturday, July 21 at 6:30 p.m.; Wednesday, July 25, 8:30 p.m. and Sunday, July 29 at 5:30 p.m. For more information please contact Legislator Stern's office at 631-854-5100.
