Artist visits Lindenhurst's Albany Avenue Elementary

Artist Angelo DeCesare visited Lindenhurst's Albany Avenue Elementary School for a special program with Ms. Lewald's fifth graders and Ms. Quartuccio's kindergarteners. DeCesare talked about his experiences as an author and illustrator. DeCesare has written several journalstyle picture books, featuring his main character, Flip.

In his latest books, mathematics has become the central subject. For this visit to Albany Avenue, the two classes worked with their buddies to complete a cooperative activity, using mathematical shapes to recreate scenes from the book Flip's Math Party.

Angelo DeCesare's books provide a link between reading and math. Both students and teachers enjoyed his visit.

Shown in the photo, author/illustrator Angelo DeCesare explains his drawing for the Albany Avenue kindergarteners.
