Amateur HAM radio operators hold emergency drill

A simulated emergency program for amateur HAM radio clubs throughout the United States and Canada took place June 23 and 24th. The Great South Bay Amateur Radio Club took part in this emergency radio preparedness drill at Town Hall Park in Lindenhurst.

In photo left, Jay Eichner (N2PIK) operates on 20 M (meter) phone during the exercise. He uses a laptop computer to log the location and call sign of each contact he made. He is also the current president of GSBARC.

Anyone who was interested in Amateur (HAM) radio was invited to the event and given the opportunity to "get on the air" under the guidance of a club member. Below, Don Rollock (W2EUL), lets a visitor try her hand at making a contact in Mexico. She was successful in getting through, though her effort was not logged in as an official contact.
