Two local high school graduates awarded scholarships

The Babylon Fire Department at its June monthly Warden's meeting honored two local high school graduates with scholarships funded from their annual Scholarship Committee chaired by Firefighter Eugene Cuneo- Ret. Principal NB High School.

The $1,000 scholarship was awarded to Shannon Tracey of Babylon Village. T racey is a graduating senior in the West Babylon High School Class of 2007. Tracey is the daughter of Ex-Captain James Tracey of the Argyle Hose Co.#3 BFD and Elizabeth Lenox of Babylon. She will be attending Stone Hill College in Massachusetts.

The $750 scholarship was awarded to Shane Walton of West Islip. W alton is a graduating senior in the West Islip High School Class of 2007. Walton is the grandson of Firefighter Robert Lynch of the Phoenix Hose Co. #1. W alton will be attending the University of Rhode Island.

Chief Richard Krollage presided over the awards ceremony and thanked the recipients for their community service, and commented on their academic excellence. He also thanked the Chairman of the Scholarship Committee and its members for their hning applicants. The Babylon Fire Department Scholarship has been awarded since its inception in 1998 to a graduating senior planning to attend an accredited institution of higher learning. The recipient must be either an active member of the Babylon Fire Department, or a dependent or grandchild of an Active Babylon Fire Department member.
