Snapper Derby to be held August 18 and 19
The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation has announced that the annual Snapper Derby fishing tournament cosponsored by Captree Bait, Tackle and Fuel will be held Saturday, August 18 and Sunday, August 19, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Captree State Park. This event is promoted to encourage children to fish, however, all ages are welcome. Thee is no entry fee, however, the Vehicle Use fee will be in effect.
Fishing locations are restricted to the fishing piers at the Captree Boat Basin and the Fisherman's Walk located at Captree State park. Equipment prizes for first through fifth places will be awarded in the following age groups: seven years old and younger, eight to twelve years of and 13 to 16 years old. One grand prize will be awarded on Sunday, 4 p.m. for the heaviest snapper caught during the weekend. The winner need not be present. Snappers will be weighed alive and live release is encouraged.
