West Islip honors select group of achievers
A select group of West Islip High School students was presented with the President's Award for Educational Achievement at a ceremony with Islip Town official Joan Johnson. The awards were earned by the students' demonstration of outstanding academic improvement. The twenty recipients are the top five students at each grade level who achieved the greatest consistent increase in grade point average this school year.
Coordinated by school counseling intern Deanna Falcone of Hofstra University and her supervisor, West Islip School District the following students: (Gr. 9) Denielle Douglas, Daniel Eurell, Raquel Lally, Ciara LeBlanc, Michael Meurer, (Gr. 10) Alessandra Hussain, Melissa O'Brien, Kaitlin Parro, Kiersten Schmidt, Matthew Wright, (Gr. 11) Rosanna Carvalho, Jonathan Clark, Joseph Curto, Tomas Swanson, Andrew Walsh (gr. 112) Kyle Abreu, Robert Ferraro, Andrew Hughes, Michael Lewis and Jessica Thalamer.
Also in attendance at this special event were the students' families, teachers and administrators.
