First annual Nolans Night of Champions held

Islip Town Supervisor Phil Nolan hosted his first annual 'Nolan's Night of Champions,' on Tuesday June 19, 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium at Islip Town Hall West. In the spirited celebration, Nolan honored more than 200 champion student athletes from school districts throughout the Town of Islip including: Bayport-Blue Point, Bay Shore, Brentwood, Connetquot, East Islip, Islip, Sayville and West Islip, as well as St. John the Baptist Catholic High School, in West Islip.

Nolan, a true sports fan, called the event a chance to celebrate not only the skill of student athletes, but also their determination and drive.

"These kids are out there, on the field, court or track everyday," said Nolan, speaking to a packed house of proud parents. "And, just when you or I would shut our bedroom light and go to sleep, these kids are doing their schoolwork or perfecting their sport further, because they are driven, stellar achievers," said Nolan. The student athletes who were honored at the event have achieved one or more of the following titles: All County, All Long Island and All State Athlete, as well as additional athletic awards, such as Player of the Year and Academic All American.

Also present at the event were Councilman Steven J. Flotteron and Receiver of Taxes Virginia E. Allen. Nolan, along with Flotteron and Allen presented the champions with their achievement certificates, as well as chatted with the athletes, their families and friends about sports, school and the infinite potential for future success each champion can achieve.
