Babylon hosts Pre-School graduation
Babylon High School offers a child psychology course for juniors and seniors. Taught by teacher Cindy Theiss, it provides three units of college credit through C.W. Post University. A Pre-School Program for four-year-olds is the lab component of this course. On June 5, the pre-school class of 2007 graduated in the school's Rowe Hall with families, school district officials, and a class of kindergartners in attendance.
The Pledge of Allegiance opened the ceremony with the American flag held by pre-schooler Jack Mroczka. The award-winning vocal group, The Chordettes, led by Melissa Dell-Italia, sang Over the Rainbow, which was followed by the kindergartners welcoming the new graduates "to their next chapter of learning" at Babylon Schools. The youngsters, led by music teacher Colleen Winther, sang Body Boogie to the delight of the audience.
At the podium, Theiss said, "These children are absolute treasures," as the pre-schoolers prepared to sing Later Alligator and Summetime, led by junior Justin Lockwood and seniors James Mahr and Christine Hunter. One by one, the little ones with their student-"teachers," crossed over into kindergarten by walking on a specially-built wooden bridge, shown. Each received a graduation cap and preschool diploma. "This is always one of the happiest and most joyful days of the school year," exclaimed Theiss, who added that this was the 29th annual pre-school graduation.
