Physicians at Martin Luther King, Jr., Community Health Center (MLK) are sending families home from check-ups with free books and a very important prescription - "read aloud to your children." MLK participates in "Reach Out and Read," a program that trains medical providers to advise parents about the importance of reading aloud and offers free books to children at check-ups from six months to five years.

Congressman Steve Israel visited the health center and read two books to the children.

"A love of reading often inspires a love of learning," said Congressman Israel. "It's crucial that we instill this in children early on and that's why I'm glad to work with Reach Out and Read and the Martin Luther King, Jr., Community Health Center to make sure that intellectual development and physical development go hand-inhand."
