Heard It On The Grapevine
By Frick and Frack

IT WAS A PACKED HOUSE at the fifth annual Mayor E. Donald Conroy Scholarship dinner held at the VenetianYacht Club last week. As in the past, it was a huge financial and social success. Hats off to chairman Bert Pedersen and his hard-working committee which did such a fab job. Our congratulations too to the hard-working seniors who received scholarships at the dinner. We hear that the hors d'oeuvres and buffet Italian dinner were delicious. Among the happy guests were Councilman Lindsay Henry, Senator Owen Johnson, Legislator Wayne Horsley, Mayor Ralph Scordino, Trustee Kevin Muldowney, Shirley Skeffington, Katharine Fallon, Steve Ferraro, Connie Hoernel, Nancy Swan, "Packy" McGinnie, and everyone was so happy to see Pruddie Ferraro back from Florida, and much more. Congratulations to all on a perfect evening.

BRING YOUR APPETITES. Celebrated a special occasion with good friends Marilyn and Joe Flammin at the Lake House last Friday night. This is the Bay Shore spot where the elite meet to eat. Must say the food was the best and the service perfect. Try the soft shell crabs if they have them. We met Judy and Warren Light celebrating their homecoming from a wonderful trip to Hawaii and California and a special visit with their friend Doria Liffeati.

A VERY SPECIAL BIRTHDAY for a very special lady, Isabel Gallagher who celebrated with her family on the seventh. The founder of the Babylon Beautification Society, Isabel has established a beautiful legacy for our Village- one that will always be with us.

IT'S GRADUATION TIME, and we have some local guys and gals who made the grade. Johnathan Hoyler received his degree in business from Sienna College in Albany with his parents, Jill and Chuck Hoyler on hand for the big day; Gavin Vanderveldt graduated from the State University at Stonybrook with a degree in economics; Leah Vanderveldt graduated from Fordham University with a communications degree. They were guests of honor at a party held for them by Alice and Joe Vanderveldt in their beautiful backyard; Evan Reinheimer graduated from the state College at Farmingdale and enjoyed a luncheon party at Don Francisco's with family and friends; Grace and Ed Ricketts are proud of their granddaughter Meagan who graduated from Midway High School in Massachusetts. Meagan will attend Salve Regina College in Newport where she has been awarded a scholarship and will study nursing; and another Meagan, this time Meagan Skeffington graduated from high school in Houston. Her grandmother Shirley Skeffington and her aunts Cindy La Valle and "Sassy" Allers all flew out fore the ceremonies. Meagan will be going to "Ole Miss" next fall. Our congratulations to all of these fine students.

TEMPERS FLEW and there was a large crowd at the Village Zoning Board meeting last week. What's it all about? An Argyle Park property. Stay tuned for more information.

NEW SMYRNA VISITORS want to know who is the owner of the black SUV with the license plate "WAFFERS" and a New Smyrna Beach sign on the back window. Hint, they were at the Babylon Yacht Club Happy Hour party last Wednesday. Drop us a line if you have any information.

HARD IT ON THE GRAPEVINE. Look for a settlement in the current wage dispute between the Village workers and the administration. We hear both sides want a resolution of the matter---more to come.

FIND OUT WHAT SHE THINKS. Friends of Emily Reinheimer, formerly of Gwynn Street, Babylon, can find her picture in the Purchase College website. Emily was one of the students selected to be interviewed for their impressions of campus life. To find out what she thinks, click "Student Stories" on the web cover page. The winsome junior is the daughter of Lance Reinheimer of North Babylon and Donna Reinheimer of Gorham, Maine, and the granddaughter of Bettie Hanse and the late Gilbert C. Hanse.

A SIXTH GENERATION BABYLON. Libby and Ryan Maywood announce the arrival of their first child, Margaux Elizabeth who was born in Southside Hospital on June 8th weighing in at eight pounds, one ounce. The baby's grandparents are Jill and Barry Corbett and Derek and Ruth Batty. Her great grandmothers are Barbara Zimmerman and Vi Batty.
