Belmont Elementary in North Babylon participates in Read Across America

Earlier this month, students at Belmont Elementary School in the North Babylon School District joined other students around the nation in the annual Read Across America program. The theme of this year's program was Dr. Seuss' The Cat In The Hat, as the event date coincided with Dr. Seuss' birthday and the 30th anniversary of The Cat In The Hat.

To celebrate Read Across America, Belmont Elementary invited a number of special guests to read Dr. Seuss books to specific grade levels. The guest readers included: Supervisor Bellone, Town of Babylon; Dr. Laria, Acting Superintendent for North Babylon Schools; Dr. Lowenborg- Coyne, Director of Music and Art for North Babylon Schools; and Alice Cone, Belmont Civic Association.

This event served as another opportunity to stress the important message that "children who read - and are read to - do better in school and in life." Susan Levine, reading specialist, coordinatred the event.
