Memorial Service set for June 8 for Joseph W. Chasas Joseph W. Chasas, a World War II veteran who was born in Babylon, died in North Carolina February 24, 2007. A memorial service for him will be held June 8, at St. Joseph's, R.C. Church, Babylon, at 9:45 a.m. A reception will follow at Hibernian Hall, Locust Ave., Babylon. Mr. Chasas was born to Amelia and Peter Chaais on July 4, 1924. He graduated from Babylon High School in 1942. During World War II, he was a member of the United States Coast guard, patrolling the coast of Long Island. Following his Coast Guard duty, he became a commercial fisherman, working out of Islip. Following that, he started a very successful building business in the Hamptons and Fire Island. Four years ago, he relocated to Hempstead, North Carolina.
Mr. Chasas leaves behind his wife Doris, his sister Virginia who is a retired nun and now lives in Puerto Rico and many nieces and nephews.
