County officials named as influential women
Legislator Nowick is in her sixth year as a Suffolk County Legislator and chairs the Parks and Recreation Committee and is a member of the Health and Human Services and Public Safety Committees. As a County Legislator she strives to save taxpayers money while providing responsive, efficient government services. During her tenure, she has dedicated her energies to downtown revitalization, environmental protection, tax stabilization, public safety and consumer protection. A former Tax Receiver for the Town of Smithtown, Legislator Nowick is an honorary member of the Smithtown Rotary Club and the Smithtown Chamber of Commerce and serves on the Honorary Board of the Suffolk County Coalition Against Domestic Violence. In November 2005, Angie Carpenter was elected to serve as the Treasurer of Suffolk County Department of Taxation. Since taking office in January 2006, she has diligently worked to increase interest earnings, bringing in additional revenue of $11,382,788 over 2005. Prior to this position, she was a Suffolk County Legislator and served as the Legislature's Deputy Presiding Officer for two consecutive years. As a lawmaker, she generated countywide initiatives in such areas as business, health, education, transportation and historic preservation. Carpenter has volunteered and shared her expertise with many organizations including the Girl Scouts of Suffolk County, West Islip Chamber of Commerce and the Salvation Army.
