Representatives of the Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary and Audubon Center visited with Assemblyman Bob Sweeney in Albany to discuss an increase in state funding for New York's zoos, botanical gardens and aquariums. Sweeney is the new chair of the Assembly's Environmental Conservation Committee. Also making the trip was an Eastern Screech Owl that had been injured and is being rehabilitated at the Sanctuary.

The Sanctuary is a 15 acre preserve and nature center in Oyster Bay. Visitors and volunteers are always welcome. For information, call 516-922-3200.

Shown with Assemblyman Sweeney is Aaron Virgin, director of the Sanctuary.

Recently, Suffolk County Legislator Thomas F. Barraga (R, West Islip) participated in the ninth annual Elizabeth T. McNamee Memorial Fun Run/ Walk held in West Islip. Proceeds from the event will be used to increase awareness and educate others about hypertrophic cardiomyopathy - the number one cause of sudden cardiac death among America's youth.

Shown in the photo, left to right, are Joanne Barraga, Legislator Barraga, Debra Braun- Courville, Karen Seamen and Carol Braun.
