Boy Scouts retiring of worn and tattered American Flags to be held June 9

The Suffolk County Council, Boy Scouts of America invites the community to join us in properly retiring worn and tattered American Flags on Saturday, June 9, noon to 3 p.m. at the Suffolk County Armed Forces Plaza (front parking lot of the H. Lee Dennison Building) 100 Veterans Hwy., Hauppauge.

In addition, community members are encouraged to bring their own torn or tattered flags for retirement. Flags may be retired in honor or memory of a loved one or a group such as a squad, precinct, company, a ship, or an air wing. The ceremony will commence at noon with the retirement of eight ceremonial flags. These flags will represent journalists, military veterans, police officers, firefighters, court officers, trades people, and civilians who have died in line of duty, and the 32 individuals killed at VA Tech on April 16.
