Babylon resident honored at Italian American Museum

Babylon resident, Saverio Giarrusso was honored at the sixth annual fundraising gala for the Italian American Museum at Cipriani Wall Street.

Giarrusso is president of M&T Bank. CEO and President of Morano Enterprises, Vincent A. Morano, and President of Ponte Equities, Angelo J. Ponte were also feted for their contributions to the Italian American community.

"We take pride in honoring the accomplishments of Italian Americans who are icons in their respective fields," said Dr. Joseph V. Scelsa, president of the Italian American Museum. "Their dedication and passion exemplifies the richness and diversity of the Italian American experience."

Singer Giada Valenti and the Panorama Orchestra and America's Fourth Tenor, Michael Amante provided entertainment.

This week the Italian American Museum announced that it has acquired three contiguous buildings on Grand St. at the corner of Mulberry St. in Little Italy. The structures will be combined and expanded to become the museum's new home in 2010. The Italian American Museum was established in 2001 when it received its provisional charter from the New York State Board of Regents.
