Village should enhance enforcement at train station
Dear Editor:

The Village of Babylon has no problem collecting money from parking at the railroad, yet it appears it cares less about what happens to vehicles while parked there. For decades, countless cars have been stolen, vandalized and broken into, numerous bicycles have been stolen and countless commuters have been placed in dangerous situations. One would think the Village, which profits so greatly, would use the same money spent by commuters for parking to better enhance their safety within the parking lots.

I find it deplorable that when I get off the train at 3 a.m. I must be more worried about my safety in Babylon Village then the most dangerous parts of New York City! With no video cameras, safety call boxes, and permanent nightly assigned law enforcement officers, it is no wonder why the criminals have made the Babylon Village Railroad Station nothing more than a criminal playground.

I demand, as a commuter, that the Babylon Village Mayor meet with the MTA and local officials to address the safety concerns and implement a safety strategy that includes 24-hour video surveillance, as well as other security procedures that will protect the commuters in the metered parking and Village-designated parking areas. Other railroad parking lots have already taken such action. Now is the time that we should also!
