Edith Giffen , resident of North Babylon:

Longtime Babylon resident and loving mother Edith Giffen died March 8, 2007 at Raleigh, North Carolina. She was 83 years old and spent her life caring for her family and home.

Born Edith Sasse in Brooklyn, she lived in Queens before moving to Ross Road in Babylon in 1950 and lived there for 46 years. She moved to North Carolina in 1996 to be closer to her daughter, Laurie.

"She was a loving mom who really supported her family," said her son, Terry who said she loved to play bridge and was a member of the women's auxiliary of the Long Island Yacht Club. She was also a longtime member of the Babylon Methodist Church.

Mrs. Giffen leaves behind her children: Terence Jr. and his wife Suzanne of Nashville, Tennessee and Laurie Dilio and her husband Kevin of Raleigh, North Carolina; her grandchildren: Jason of Georgetown, DC, Sarah or Wallingford, Connecticut and Jacqueline Dilio of Raleigh, North Carolina. She was predeceased by her husband of 51 years, Terence.

A memorial service was held March 11, 2007 at the First Reformed Church of Cary, North Carolina. Interment to follow at a later date at the Long Island National Cemetery in Calverton.
