Career exploration day in Deer Park

Students from Deer Park High School and Robert Frost Middle School in Deer Park were recently visited by professionals from local businesses and organizations who spoke to them about their experiences in their respective careers. A wide variety of careers were represented, including nursing, cosmetology, law enforcement, advertising, banking, teaching, social work, aviation, government, civil service, teaching, dentistry and culinary arts. Guest speakers discussed their typical workday, educational background and relevant experience to their particular occupation, as well as what skills and abilities are required for entry level and advancement in their chosen fields. Students were able to choose the workshops they were most interested in attending, with more than 20 options offered.

"We've been hosting career days in both the middle and high schools for many years," said Jill Perry-Eisen, coordinator of the program. "Members of the Deer Park community have been very supportive of this program, and we thank them for their participation in making this day a success."
