West Islip students Rope for Heart

Students in the Paul J. Bellew Elementary School in West Islip have set a goal of raising $30,000 for the American Heart Association by participating in Jump Rope for Heart. Approximately 450 children are seeking sponsors for the special activity, which they have volunteered to do prior to the start of classes in the morning. Last year, says Principal Dan Hunter, kneeling, right, the Bellew School was ranked the number one Jump Rope for Heart donor in Suffolk County, and number four on Long Island. This year, the young students plan to break their record. Helping to get the entire school in the groove, art students Caitlyn Reusch, Meaghan Reusch, Sarah Moses, Martina Tinnirello and Alyssa Policastro created posters, shown behind them, with art teacher Louise Stephenson. Also shown are physical education teachers Joe Nicolosi and Anthony Yuli, who along with Colleen Reilly, are advisors on the project.
