Here's a look at the latest sports action for the schools in the coverage area of the Beacon and Record (all facts and figures as of May 14):

Amityville

The baseball team is 1-15 and hasn't won a game since April 18, its only win of the season. Most games this season have been blowouts, but the, 11- 10, win over West Hampton, shows the team can win if they try.

Babylon

The Panthers' softball team is by far the best spring program the district has this year. At 11-2, they're one of the best teams in Suffolk County and have had big wins in the first week of May. They beat Mattituck, 15-3, and Pierson/ Bridgehampton, 14-2. Ace Amanda McKay allowed a total of nine hits and one earned run in those games.

The baseball team has see-sawed all year and their 6-6 record shows that. They beat Mattituck, 9-0, and lost, 13-2, the next day. Willy Rivas has pitched well to this point and needs a strong finish for Babylon to make any noise in the post season like last year.

The boys' lacrosse team (5-5) has had a similar season. Greg Griffo scored three goals in a 15-3 win over East Hampton on May 1, but lost, 12-11, two days later to Hills West.

The girls' lacrosse team is 2-7. Amanda Turnbull and Jourdan Brown scored two goals in a, 12-6, win over Southampton.

Copiague

The softball and boys' lacrosse teams have won just two games and the girls' lacrosse team has won one.

Sam Dipietros hit a walk-off single to give the Eagles' softball team its second win of the season, an 8-7 victory over Bellport.

Joe Jacobia scored four goals and had four assists in a, 15-4, win over Hempstead on May 4 for the boys' lacrosse team. It was their first and only win of the season thus far. Since then, they lost, 14-13, to Deer Park and, 8-7, to Riverhead.

Deer Park

It's never easy playing in a league with the Eastport-South Manor baseball team, but Deer Park has been dealt that hand this season. On May 10 they lost 10-1 to them, two days after losing, 12- 1, to St. John the Baptist in a non-league game.

Bo Budkevics has pitched well this season. He struck out 12 in a 7-3 win over North Babylon on May 4.

The boys' lacrosse team is 3-9. They lost 10-8 to an up-and-coming Bellport team after beating Copiague by one goal.

Andrea Pop had four goals for the girls' lacrosse team in an 18-6 win over Southampton. The lady Falcons are 6-6.

Lindenhurst

The Bulldogs' baseball team closed the gap between them and Patchogue-Medford in League I. They won a three game series in the beginning of May. Jose Paulinos hit an RBI double during the seventh inning of the second game of the series on May 8, which resulted in a 4-2 win. Rob Christie threw a two-hit shutout and struck out six batters in a 3-0 win two days later.

Tim Russo scored four goals and the game-winner against Bay Shore in a 10-9 win for the boys' lacrosse team on May 10.

After beating Copiague, 15- 3, on May 7, the girls' lacrosse team lost two big games to North Babylon, 14-13, and Ward Melville, 19-6.

North Babylon

The girls' lacrosse team beat Middle Country on May 10, 19-12, thanks to Riley Perry's six goals and two assists.

Smithtown West beat the softball team, 10-0, on May 11. The baseball team lost, 15-11, to Smithtown West the same day.

West Babylon

The Eagles' softball team is one of the best on Long Island this season. At 17-1, and on a path of destruction against their opponents, not much has gotten in their way. Their last loss was against Smithtown West on April 25, a 6-4 defeat.

Recently, they beat Smithtown East, 15-0, and Hills East, 13-1. Chelsea Shea struck out 13 Smithtown hitters and went 4-for-5 in the game.

Shannon Smith really doesn't know how to do anything but score. She added another seven goals and four assists to her career totals in a 20-3 win over Pat-Med for the girls' lacrosse team, which is 8-4.

West Islip

Everything is going as predicted for the Lions' boys' lacrosse team. At 11-0, they are playing up to expectations and are on par to win another state title in Justin Turri's final season of high school lacrosse.

The Duke bound Turri scored four goals against Bay Shore on May 4, three goals against Smithtown West on May 8 and another goal on May 10 against Floyd in a 17-1 win.

After losing, 13-3, to Hills East to open the month of May, the baseball team hasn't lost a game. They're 11-4 and recently swept Newfield.
