Babylon HS announces Valedictorian and Salutatorian

Babylon High School officials have announced this year's Valedictorian and Salutatorian for the Class of 2007. At the May Board of Education meeting, Board President Darrell J. Conway and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Ellen Best-Laimit presented certificates to Samantha Lipman and Aditya Ramanathan in the picture.

Lipman has been on the Principal's High Honors list every quarter throughout her four- year high school career. She is a member of the varsity field hockey, winter and spring track teams and participates in the National Honor Society, foreign language club, the Tri-M Music Honor Society, Class Cabinet, and the senior high math team. She is president of the National French Honor Society and first chair in Symphonic Winds. She is one of only seven students enrolled in the BC Calculus class. She has received the Dartmouth Book Award, the Scholar Athlete Award, the AP Scholar with Distinction, and the BTA High Honor Award. In addition, she works part-time, is an underclassman mentor, and works as a laboratory assistant in Mr. Kenney's chemistry classes. Lipman ranks first in her class with an unweighted grade point average of 98.9 and a weighted average of 105.03. She will be attending Duke University and majoring in chemical engineering.

This year's class salutatorian is a National Merit Scholarship Winner and an AP Scholar with Distinction. Ramanathan is a deep thinker, an analyst and an adept problem solver. His strengths stretch across all areas of the curriculum, although his interests clearly fall in the area of the sciences. He is the winner of the Bausch and Lomb Award and recipient of the Rennsaelaer Medal and is a member of the math team, the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, and Tri M Music Honor Society. Additionally, he has been a member and captain of the cross country and track teams, and presently serves as the treasurer of the senior class. As a volunteer at Good Samaritan Hospital, he has dedicated countless hours to service. Mr. Ramanathan is also a talented musician who plays the French Horn in the Symphonic Winds and was selected for the All-State Orchestra. Graduating with an unweighted grade point average of 98.4 and a weighted average of 104.5, this year's salutatorian will be attending Stony Brook University as a member of their most selective freshman entry eight-year Medical School Program. He has received a full scholarship into this prestigious program.
